NEC Holds Award Ceremony for 2017 Civic Education for Democracy Lecturer and Class Material Competition
The National Election Commission (NEC) held an awards ceremony for the 2017 Civic Education for Democracy Lecturer and Class Material Competition on Wednesday September 20.
This competition was held for the first time by the Korean Civic Education Institute for Democracy (KOCEI) to secure teaching material that anyone can relate to in their everyday lives and use for civic education for democracy. A total of 44 entries were submitted during the competition held from July 3 to August 31, and the one grand prize, three excellence awards, and 11 encouragement awards were given out.
The grand prize was won by Park Hyung, who submitted a "Sejong Times Power Street Index." The three excellence prizes were awarded for "Democracy, Let''s Start from Home (Kim Young Mi)", “Citizens in a School Uniform, Supporting the Geumcheon-gu Youth Council” and "Multicultural Civic Education for Democracy (Han Seung Gun) ".
Winners were awarded 1,500,000 Korean Won ($1,300 USD) for the grand prize, 500,000 Korean Won ($450 USD) for each excellence prize and 200,000 Korean won ($175 USD) for each encouragement prize.
KOCEI will produce video lecture material based on the winners’ work, and it will be made public on their website and broadcast on the Election TV (eTV).
