The National Election Commission, unveils the result of analyzing voter turnout of the 18th Presidential Election
The National Election Commission (NEC) analyzed the voter turnout rate of the 18th Presidential Election by ages. The results show that the voter turnout rate in the 50s was the highest reaching 82.0% and the voters in the 20s recorded the lowest turnout, 68.5%. The 18th presidential election saw a 5% p increase of the demographic group between the 50s and the 60s and 13.8%p~22.8%p between the 20s and the 30s respectively compared to the 17th Presidential Election. This analyze was conducted on the voters of 4,163,800 persons(10.3%) among all voters(40,507,842) based on the voter list from the Gu/Si/Gun Election Commission nationwide; the turnout of the sample test(75.6%) showed 0.2%p difference from the real turnout(75.8%). The results of analyzing the voter turnout of the 18th presidential election by gender/age/region are as follows;
▣ Voter turnout by gender The female voter turnout (76.4%) was higher than that of male voter turnout (74.8%) showing 1.6%p difference. The male has had a little bit higher voting rate than the female since the 16th presidential election in 2002. However, this 18th presidential election saw the higher female turnout than that of male turnout. ▣ Voter turnout by age group When it comes to voting rate by age group, those voters in the 50s (82.0%) and the 60s (80.9%) showed the highest voting rate, hovering 80%. The turnout tended to being lowered as the age is younger following 75.6% in the 40s, 70.0% in the 30s and 68.5% in the 20s. Voters aged 19 years old showed 74.0% of voting rate. Looking at the increased turnout rate compared with the 17th presidential election, voters in the 50s(76.6% → 82.0%) and in the 60s(76.3% → 80.9%) showed 5%p of increase respectively. On the other hand, voters in the earlier 20s(51.1% → 71.1%), late 20s(42.9% → 65.7%), earlier 30s(51.3% → 67.7%) and late 30s(58.5% → 72.3%) significantly increased by 13.8%p~22.8%p. Meanwhile, seeing the rate of voters of the 18th presidential election by age group, voters aged 60 years old and more recorded the highest rate with 22.6% and the turnout in the 40s(21.8%), 50s(20.8%), 30s(18.5%) and 20s(14.6%) were followed. ▣ Voter turnout by gender and age group In terms of voting rate by gender/age group, among male voters, the voters aged 60 years old and more were the highest showing 85.9% of turnout and the voting rate in the late 20s showed 62.5%, the lowest. For female, those in the 50s showed the highest voting rate with 82.9% and the lowest turnout fell into the female voters in the late 20s with 69.2%. Compared to the 17th presidential election, the turnout by gender and age group is statistically increased; especially, the voting rate in the earlier 20s (46.2% → 70.1%) and late 20s (46.0% → 69.2%) showed a significant increase. ▣ Voter turnout by age group and region Looking at the voting rate by age group and region, voters aged 40 years old and more saw higher voting rate whopping more than 77% from all administrative division including Seoul, Metropolitan cities, Medium and small cities, Eup and Myeon. In addition, voters aged 20 years old and under showed lower voting rate as the scales of administrative district are getting smaller except Seoul. While all age group of all administrative district saw an increase of the turnout rate, voter turnout in the 20s from Seoul, Metropolitan cities and medium and small cities recorded more than 20%p increase compared to the 17th presidential election. ▣ Voter turnout by gender, age group and region Gwangju Metropolitan City saw the highest voting rate from all age group except the female voters aged 40 years old and more across the nation; the region where the female voting rate aged 40 years old and more is the highest was Daegu Metropolitan City. When it comes to the region with lower turnout, Gangwon-do had the lowest voting rate in the age of 19, male and female as well. Male and female voters in the 20s and 30s from Sejong Special Self-governing City showed the lowest. Incheon Metropolitan City and Chungcheongnam-do had the lowest male voters in the 40s and more and female voters in the 40s and more respectively. |
