The Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) had its Executive Board Meeting in Seoul, hosted by NEC, on October 26-29, 2010. Sixteen distinguished delegates from six countries including the Republic of Korea, India, Sri Lanka, the ROC (Taiwan), Indonesia and the Philippine attended the meeting, presided over by Hon. Chairman Dr. Liu I-Chou of CEC of Taiwan. The AAEA was founded in February 1998 with the goal of establishing open and transparent elections and facilitating information exchanges in the Asian region. As of 2010, the membership stands at 17 countries. Prior to the meeting, the delegates had a chance to experience at first hand the election of Korea, with the observation of voting and vote counting in the by-election of Seo-gu, Gwangju, on October 27. At the Executive Board Meeting on October 28, the participants discussed which member will host next General Assembly, the design of AAEA’s flag, and reviewed its observation of Sri Lanka presidential election of January 2010. After the meeting, Hon. Chairman Yang, Sung-tae of NEC hosted an official luncheon, where the delegates discussed ways to expand membership and facilitate exchanges among election commissions.
