Start Registering as Pre-Candidates for Heads of Si/Do Governments and Superintendents of Education

The National Election Commission of Korea (NEC) notified the start of registering as pre-candidates for Heads of Si/Do and Superintendents of Education elections from February 2, 120 days ahead of the 5th Nationwide Local Elections held on June 2, 2010.


 


Registration Date as a Pre-candidate


- For Heads of Si/Do and Superintendents of Education:


  from February 2, 2010 (120 days ahead of the election)


- For Heads of Gu/Si Governments and Members of Si/Do and Gu/Si Councils:


  from February 19, 2010 (90 days ahead of the election)


- For Heads of Gun Governments and Members of Gun Councils:  


  from March 21, 2010 (60 days ahead of the election)

- Election Deposit (Required)


- Criminal Records (Required)


- Education Records


- Certificate of Family Relationship


 


Pre-candidates’ Permitted Electioneering Methods


   Pre-candidates are allowed to:


- establish an election campaign office


- use signs, tablets and banners for campaign


- have five campaign staffs


- give name cards out to voters


- call or send text messages to voters


- publish printed materials and send them to voters by postal


 


As the registration as pre-candidates starts, the NEC is keeping a close watch over rigged election and is providing various programmes for fair election. In particular, “Election Academy” is a unique programme run by the NEC. Expecting candidates and election campaigners can participate in this programme at competent Election Commissions. The “Election Academy” provides some lectures and guidelines related to preparing procedure of candidacy, election laws, electioneering and manifesto.
