23rd Head of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation Elections to be Held on January 12 2016 Candidate Registration open December 28 and 29
The National Election Commission (NEC) has confirmed that the election for the 23rd Head of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation will be held on January 12 2016.
The NEC will be receiving candidate registrations for two days on December 28 and 29.
Those who wish to run in the election must be a member of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and should not be disqualified for any reason provided in the articles of the Charter of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation.
The candidates may campaign by distributing campaign material, making calls or through other telecommunications between December 30 2015 and January 11 2016. In particular, according to the amended Private Election Act now in affect, candidates are now allowed to give campaign speeches on election day. This gives the candidates an opportunity to make members of the Federation aware of their policies.
The electorate consists of 292 members including the President of the Federation and Federation representatives.
The NEC was first entrusted with these elections in 2011, and in 2014 the Private Election Act was enacted, making it mandatory for the NEC to manage the elections.
