The National Election Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Korea will hold an entrusted election for the 4th Korea Paralympic Committee (KPC) President on January 18 in accordance with the Sport Promotion Act.

The election will be managed in a similar way to the election for the President of the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) held last October and it is mandatory for the NEC to be entrusted with this election. The elected candidate will hold office for four years from February 23.

Candidate registrations were received by the NEC on January 5 and 6. Those who wished to run in the election must have been eligible according to the constitution of the KPC and the presidential election administration regulations.

Candidates campaigned for 11 days from January 7 to 17 using election bulletins, phone calls, business cards, or information networks. Candidates were allowed to present themselves and announce their opinions on the day of the election.

For this election there will be an electoral college composed of experts, including the heads of affiliated organizations, the presidents of local paralympic committees, the Korean representative at the General Assembly of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), athletes, coaches, referees and academics. The online voting system developed and supported by the NEC was utilized in particular to make it easy for people with disabilities to vote.

The NEC has called for active cooperation to ensure that the election is carried out in accordance the Law on Entrusted Elections, Including Public Organizations which came into force in January this year. Particularly from this election forward, election violations such as illegal donations will be strictly punished.
