NESDC signs MoU with the Korea Press Foundation = Plan to cooperate with journalists to raise the professionalism of election surveys =
The National Election Survey Deliberation Commission (NESDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea Press Foundation on November 30 in order to reform malpractices of reporting improper election surveys during various elections, including those cases seen during the recent 20th National Assembly elections, and raising the professionalism of those that produce election surveys.
NESDC Chairperson Kim Young-won and Korea Press Foundation Chairperson Kim Byeong-ho participated in the ceremony to sign the agreement.
In order to raise the professionalism of election surveys, the two organizations have agreed to continuously work together. The Korea Press Foundation will host the training courses on topics such as election survey planning, analysis and survey result report, while the NEC will develop lectures and training content.
In addition, both organizations expect to bring five major media organizations -Korean Broadcasters Association, Korean Association of Newspapers, Korea News Editors’ Association, Korea Press Association and the Korea Internet Newspaper Association - together at an Election Survey Improvement Forum to adopt Rules for Election Survey and Report and to announce the will to voluntarily comply with these rules.
The NESDC announced that it expects, through this MoU and the adoption of Rules for Election Survey and Report between these organizations, that there will be a significant improvement in practices in election survey reporting.
