Kim Dai-nyeon Inaugurated as NEC Secretary General

The National Election Commission of the Republic of Korea (NEC) announced that former Deputy Secretary General Kim Dai-nyeon has been appointed as the new Secretary General

 

Secretary General Kim Dai-nyeon, who was inaugurated on November 21, has held a number of senior positions including Public Relations Officer, President of the Korean Civic Education Institute for Democracy (KOCEI), Director General of Management (now Director General of Elections), and Chief Planning and Management Officer, and has been Deputy Secretary General since November 2014.

• Secretary General Kim Dai-jung has held numerous senior positions at the National Election Commission, including Public Relations Officer, President of the Korean Civic Education Institute for Democracy (KOCEI), Director General of Management (now Director General of Elections), and Chief Planning and Management Officer, and Deputy Secretary General, making him an elections expert.

 

• He has been credited with playing a major role in developing an election administration service which reaches the people with creative thinking and being a driving force behind the realization of voter-centered elections.

 

• He has played a pivotal role in directing the preparation and implementation of early voting, which has greatly improved the convenience of voting, and in developing and introducing an online voting system (K-voting system).

 

• During his time as President of KOCEI, he oversaw the holding a symposium with participants from the USA and Germany which was evaluated to have contributed to the revitalization of democratic civic education in Korea through active exchange.

 

• While in his position as Deputy Secretary General, he contributed to the fair management of the 20th National Assembly elections. He submitted revisions to the election related laws to the National Assembly that expanded citizen’s participation in the election and increased the transparency of political funds. He also served as the first Chairperson of the National Assembly Boundary Delimitation Commission.

 

• He places great importance in communication between employees and is well-trusted thanks to his soft charisma, including often being down-to-earth and having a good sense of humor with employees regardless of their rank in the Commission. 

 

• He is actively involved in participating in activities that contribute to society, including as a member of the Korean Association of Cartoonists, where he donates his own webtoons to finding missing children (Find Project).
