KOCEI, conduct EMB Officers Course for foreign countries

= For the EMB officers from Democratic Republic of the Congo and Indonesia =

On April 10, The Korea Civic Education Institute for Democracy(KOCEI) under the National Election Commission(NEC) said that it would run a EMB Officers Course for Democratic Republic of the Congo and Indonesia visiting Korea to learn its advanced electoral system on the occasion of By-election(April 24).

The course will introduce a fund system for the election, party and politics as well as methods for managing an election. It will also have a time of sharing various activities to secure a fair election including participating countries'''' electoral system and ways to promote voting.

In addition, the election observation program will be provided: the participants will witness the major process such as the absentee voting, utilizing the integrated electoral register which will be adopted for the first time in this By-election. So, it is expected that this observation program will make a huge contribution in developing the election system of the participating countries.

The EMB Officials Course for Democratic Republic of the Congo which joins this course second time following last year will be conducted from April 11 to April 25 targeting 15 EMB officials. In case of the EMB Officials Course for Indonesia, 7 EMB officials will take part in the course for 14 days from April 19 to May 2.

Separately, two EMB officials from Japan visited the NEC in April 10 to observe how to manage the system of election campaign on the internet in Korea as Japan allow the online election campaign starting from the Japanese House of Councillors Election in this July.

KOCEI has invited and conducted a course for EMB officials in emerging democracies, totaling 25 times for 317 EMB officials from 41 countries so far. It is reviewed that it has contributed not only improving the favorable relations with participating countries but also developing democratic government around the world.

Based on these results, the NEC is leading the establishment of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) in which many EMBs and International Organizations all over the world participate and is expecting to disseminate the democratic systems and methods of managing the election across the nations.
