Election Advisory Committee Meeting Held for the 19th Presidential Election

 

The National Election Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Korea held an Election Advisory Committee meeting for the successful management of the 19th presidential election at 10am at the Seoul Plaza Hotel on Wednesday February 22.

 

The Election Advisory Committee is an ad-hoc body setup to advise the Chairperson of the NEC regarding the fair management of various elections and the development of the election system. It is composed of 29 specialists from various fields such as journalism, academia, law, public relations, and civic organizations.

 

The meeting was led by NEC Chairperson Kim Yong-deok. The meeting consisted of an explanation entitled 19th Presidential Election Management Measures and a discussion on the major issues.

 

The main pending issues discussed regarding promoting public confidence and achieving free, fair and legitimate election included: 

 

• Measures to improve the accuracy and transparency of voting and counting.

• Measures to invigorate manifesto-based election campaigning.

• Measures to strengthen participating in elections and communication with citizens.

 

The NEC said that it will actively reflect the results of these discussions on election management, gaining public confidence through accurate and fair management of the 19th presidential election and will do its best to ensure it is a voter-centered beautiful election in which all citizens can participate.
