NEC to Hold 40th Korean Olympic Committee President Election on October 5

= National Sports Promotion Act amended so that the NEC will manage the elections for the first time =

The National Election Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Korea will be holding the 40th Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) President election on October 5.

This election will be for the President of the KOC and the Korean Council of Sport for All, an organization that was merged with the KOC in last March, and the term of office will be four years.

Candidate registrations were received by the NEC for two days from September 22 to the 23.

Those running as a candidate in this election must have no disqualifications to their candidacy provided in the constitution of the KOC and the regulations of management of the KOC presidential election.

Candidates and campaign officials can campaign via promotional material, by phone, by message or through the information and communications network for 11 days from September 24 until a day before the election, October 4.  On election day only a profile of a candidate and their pledges for voters may be posted at the place of voting, but outside of this all other forms of campaigning are prohibited.

In this election, firstly each sports organization under the KOC recommended electors to form an electorate, and then on September 25 the KOC election support commission confirmed the final number of electors and the voters list.

The KOC president election is the first election being managed by the NEC since the amendment to the National Sports Promotion Act in 2015 that mandates the NEC to administrate them.
