NEBDC to Host the 12th National University Debate Competition = Receiving applications through the NEBDC homepage for 5 days from July 25 to 29 =
The National Election Broadcasting Debates Commission (NEBDC) will host the 12th National University Debate Competition on August 25 and 26 at the KT Estate in Daejon.
University students who wish to participate can apply through the NEBDC website (www.debates.go.kr).
The application period is from 1pm on July 25 until 6pm on July 29, and there are spaces for 150 teams (including 22 preliminary teams) on a first-come first-served basis.
On August 25, the first day of the competition, 64 teams will be selected through a group stage, during which the topic will be The Introduction of a Punitive Damages System. Then on the second day four teams will be selected to go to the finals through a knockout tournament, during which the topic will be The Exclusion of Candidates for Public Office from Nomination Using Surveys.
The semi-finals and final are then expected to be held and recorded at one of cable networks, the JTBC studio on September 3.
The NEBDC will present a National Election Commission Chairperson’s award and a 5,000 USD prize to the competition’s grand prize winners and other prize winners will receive scholarships totaling 14,000 USD.

The NEBDC expects this competition to establish student’s proper debate skills and nurture a strong debate culture, and the NEBDC requests a great deal of participation from university students.
