Date :04/20/2012Read : 331

According to the National Election Commission, 680,258 out of 755,041 eligible absentee voters took part in absentee voting for the 19th National Assembly elections. Absentee voting was held at 542 absentee voting places across the country for 2 days from April 5 to 6. The voter turnout reached 90.1%.

The voter turnout has decreased by 1.5%p from the 91.6% turnout in absentee voting for the 18th National Assembly electons and has increased by 0.2%p from the 89.9% turnout in absentee voting for the 5th local elections.

Those who have not voted during the two-day absentee voting period may still cast their ballots at the polling stations concerned on election day. However the ballot papers and the return envelopes they have received by mail earlier must be returned to polling station officers at their voting places.

The ballot papers marked by those who have voted at their residences must arrive at the election commissions concerned by 6pm on election day. The NEC therefore kindly requested these voters to promptly post the marked ballot papers to meet the deadline.

An absentee voting turnout will be finalized on election day at 6pm, when the ballot papers marked by 106,736 voters who cast their ballots at their residences are completely returned to the election commissions concerned.
