Ms. Park Geun-hye Wins the 18th Presidential Election

The National Election Commission announced that Ms. Park Geun-hye, the Saenuri party’s candidate has won the 18th Presidential Election.

 

Ms Park Geun-hye has gained 51.55% of the total valid votes, that is, 15,773,128 out of 30,721,459 votes. The Democratic United party’s candidate, Moon Jae-in, on the other hand, has gained 48.02%, 14,690,000 votes. In addition, independent candidates Kang Ji-won has obtained 0.17% (53,303 votes) of the entire valid votes, Kim Soon-ja 0.15% (46,017 votes), Kim So-yeon 0.05% (16,687 votes) and Park Jong-sun 0.04% (12,854 votes).

 

The final voter turnout reached 75.8% with 30,721,459 out of 40,507,842 voters having cast their ballots. The figure has increased by 12.8%p from the turnout of 63.0% in the 17th Presidential Election and by 21.6%p from the turnout of 54.2% in the 19th National Assembly election.

 

Meanwhile, the Saenuri party’s candidates Hong Jun-pyo has been elected as the governor of Gyeongsangnam-do and Moon Yong-Lin as the Superintendent of Education of Seoul in the Repeat & By-elections held simultaneously with the Presidential Election on December 19.

 

The election for the head of Gu/Si/Gun Office were also held, where the Saenuri party’s candidate Kim Hong-Sub has been elected in Jung-gu Incheon, the Democratic United party’s Noh Hee-yong in Dong-gu Gwangju and the independent candidate Choi Young-jo in Gyeongsan-si Gyeongsangbuk-do.

 

Two candidates of the Saenuri party have won the election for the Si/Do Assembly members held in two areas, while 9 Saenuri party’s candidates, 6 Democratic United party’s candidates, 2 Unified Progressive party’s candidates and 2 independent candidates have been elected in the Gu/Si/Gun Assembly elections.
