| 898,864 Absentee Voters Take Part in Absentee Voting with the Turnout Reaching 92.3% |

According to the National Election Commission, 898,864 out of 973,525 absentee voters took part in absentee voting for the 18th Presidential Election conducted at 559 absentee voting places in the nation. The turnout reached 92.3%. The turnout has decreased by 1.4%p compared to that in the 17th Presidential Election held in 2007 (685,792 voted, 93.7%) and has increased by 2.2%p from the turnout in the 19th National Assembly election held this year (90.1%). The number of absentee voters who actually cast their votes has increased by 213,072 compared to those who voted in the 17th Presidential Election. The total absentee voter turnout will be finalized at 6pm on Election Day, when the ballots marked by those who vote at their residence arrive at the counting center. According to the NEC, those who were not able to vote during the absentee voting period may vote at a polling station in their resident registration place where they are required to return an absentee ballot and a return envelope. The NEC has also requested those who have voted at their residence to post the marked ballots at their earliest convenience. The marked ballots shall arrive by 6pm on December 19 Election Day. |
