| 10,991 electors for mock overseas voting are confirmed |

Mock overseas voting will be held on November 14th ~ 15th , 2010, as a preparation for Korea’s first overseas voting, scheduled to be held for the 19th National Assembly election in 2012. The objective of the mock overseas voting is to test every process of overseas voting thoroughly in advance, thereby to identify and resolve any snags. In total, 10,991 overseas Koreans were confirmed as the electorate for the mock overseas voting. Of them, 7,306 overseas citizens registered as overseas absentees, who have resident registration reported and want to vote overseas. The rest 3,685 overseas citizens applied for registration as overseas voters, whose resident registration have not been reported. Schedule for the mock overseas voting is as follows. ·Gu/Si/Gun Election Commissions sent ballot papers, leaflet containing information about overseas voting, and stamped addressed envelopes to overseas voters by international EMS. (~October 30th) · Post information about political parties and candidates standing in the mock overseas voting on the websites of NEC and embassies, consulates, and diplomatic missions. (~November 11th) ·Hold the mock overseas voting in 26 embassies, consulates, and diplomatic missions. (November 14th and 15th) ·Sixteen Gu/Si/Gun Election Commissions count the ballots. (November 24th) NEC said that if any problem is found in the mock overseas voting, it will take necessary measures to address them. It reaffirms its strong resolve to manage the first 2012 overseas voting in the most fair and efficient way possible. |
