The transparency of an election is stemmed from the reliable election process. The NEC has carried out entrusted elections for political parties’ candidate nominations and party leader elections to increase political transparency. The Election Commission of Seoul Metropolis hosted the internal party competition to choose the candidate for mayor of Seoul in the local elections by request of the Grand National Party(GNP) at Jamsil Gymnasium on May 3, 2010.

The GNP candidate for mayor of the Seoul Metropolis was determined by the results of party members’ voting and public opinion poll. The NEC provided e-voting service based on the touch screen system, composed of voter identification terminal, touch screen voting machine, ballot counting system and ballot verification system, to inform the result promptly. The e-voting service was developed in 2006 and has been utilised around 2,600 times. Thanks to the electronic voting system, the voting and counting were completed within an hour.

Mr. Oh, Se-hun, the current mayor of the Seoul Metropolis, was nominated as the candidate of GNP with the wide disparity over his nearest competitor. There will be several entrusted internal party competitions to nominate candidates for the local elections before the candidate registration period is started.
