The NEC announced that public officials, journalists and any others who are restricted from becoming a candidate due to their posts shall resign their posts by 90 days (January 12, 2012) before the election day, if they want to run for the 19th National Assembly Elections held April 11.

According to the Public Official Election Act, people who are restricted from becoming a candidate due to their posts shall resign their posts by 90 days (January 12, 2012) before the election day in order to run for the National Assembly Elections: including public officials provided in the State Public Officials Act and the Local Public Officials Act; full-time executives of local public corporations, or government-invested enterprises; local council members; and journalists.

However, to be a candidate of proportional representatives of the National Assembly, those are required to resign before the registration and National Assembly members are allowed to retain their posts in order to run for the elections.

The NEC also said that book publication celebrations related to prospective candidates are not allowed to be held between January 12 and the election day. The National Assembly members and local council members are not allowed to report political activities except posting reports on the Internet for the same period.

In addition, no one is allowed to promote books, plays, movies, photos or any other products which contain names of candidates or political parties.  Prospective candidates cannot appear in advertisements of broadcasting, newspapers or magazines.

The NEC asked extreme caution on banned activities based on periods under the Public Official Election Act in order to prevent law violations because of their ignorance.
