The NEC Holds a Meeting for Fair Elections

The National Election Commission held a meeting for fair elections where civic groups and social organizations from all walks of life participated in at the National Assembly on August 3 in order to establish fair election environments and promote activities for fair elections in the lead up to the 18th Presidential election.

 

The NEC explained publicity activities for fair elections and support plans for publicity activities led by civic groups and social organizations; and collected various opinions on measures for joint cooperation with civic groups and social organizations in order to promote the fair election environment.

 

Participants of the meeting agreed on making efforts for harmony and development with two-way communication and its reflection on the election; and encouraging voters to cast their ballots and have a keen interest through various activities for fair elections.

 

The public relations & information officer of the NEC stressed out that this coming Presidential election is very important which will set the direction for the country over the next 5 years and will also have an impact on people’s lives in a direct and indirect way. In this respect, he asked the people to raise awareness on elections and voting participation; and also urged civic groups and social organizations to conduct various activities for fair elections.

 

A total of 10 groups or organizations took part in the meeting: including Citizens’ Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (CECA); Citizens’ Coalition for Fair Elections (CAFE); Korean League of disabled voters; Korean League of Women Voters; Center for Korean Women & Politics; Mutual Respect Regard Campaign; APILA; the Powerhouse of Future Korea; Bible Korea; and Korea Governance Forum.
