Date :07/02/2012Read : 464

Then National Election Commission’s analysis on the voter turnout in the 19th National Assembly elections held on April 11 shows that the voter turnout has gone up among all the age groups compared to that in the 18th National Assembly elections. It indicates that the voter turnout of 68.6% among the sixties and above was highest while the voter turnout of 37.9% among the late twenties was lowest.

This analysis has been done on 4,132,112 voters (10.3% of the total electorate) in 1,410 out of 13,470 constituencies across the nation. The difference between the actual voter turnout (54.3%) and the voter turnout (54.4%) gained by a sample survey is 0.1%p.

The following are the results of analysis on the voter turnout by gender, age groups and areas.

n  Voter Turnout by Gender

Male voter turnout (55.7%) has exceeded female voter turnout (53.1%) by 2.6%p in the 19th National Assembly elections. The analysis shows that male voter turnout has been a bit higher than female voter turnout in all the elections since the Presidential Election in 2002.

n  Voter Turnout by Age Groups

Voter turnout was highest (68.6%) among the sixties and above and lowest (37.9%) among the late twenties (age group of 25 – 29).

Voter turnout among the other age groups is as follows:

The forties: 52.6%; the late thirties (35 – 34): 49.1%; the early twenties (20 – 24): 45.4%; the early thirties (30 – 34): 41.8%.

The voter turnout among 19 year-olds and the twenties, thirties and forties fell short of the actual voter turnout (54.3%). Among the late twenties and above, the older the voters were, the higher the voter turnout was.

The voter turnout among most age groups has gone up, compared to the voter turnout in the 18th National Assembly. Especially, voter turnout among the twenties and younger has showed a drastic increase.

Among those surveyed, those in their sixties and older voted the most (26.1% of the total number of voters), followed by the fifties (21.6%), the forties (21.2%), the thirties (17.0%), the twenties (12.5%) and the 19 year-olds.

Males in their sixties and older voted at a highest rate (76.4%) while those in the late twenties voted a lowest rate (36.3%).  Relatively more males aged 19 and in their early twenties, forties, fifties, sixties and above cast their ballots than females of the same age groups did.

Voter turnout has increased in all gender and age groups, compared to that in the 18th National Assembly elections. Voter turnout among females in their early twenties (24.1% -> 40.4%) and of 19 year-olds (27.3% -> 43.4%) showed the biggest increase.
