The National Election Commission provided 36.58 billion Korean won as election subsidies for the 18th Presidential election to 3 parties on November 28th. According to the political fund act (Article 25 & Article 27), the NEC has given the Saenuri party 17.701 billion KRW, the Democratic United party 16.15 billion KRW and the Unified Progressive party 2.735 billion KRW. Election subsidies are provided in an election year (elections following the completion of the terms of office) to the parties that nominate candidates. Below is the calculation of election subsidies: The total number of voters who were entitled to vote in the previous National Assembly elections is multiplied by an appropriate unit price (in case of the 18th Presidential election, 910 KRW). The requirements for the distribution and provision of election subsidies only apply to the parties that nominate a candidate. 50% of the total amount shall be apportioned equally to the parties that have formed a negotiating group at the time of distribution. 5% of the total amount shall be provided to the parties with more than 5 but less than 20 seats in the Assembly. The parties with less than 5 seats or none that also meet specified requirements will be given 2% of the total amount. Finally, half of the rest shall be given by the ratio of seats taken by each party in the National Assembly. The other half shall be distributed depending on the ratio of votes gained by each party in the 19th National Assembly elections. <Current Status of the Election Subsidies Distributed to Each Party> (unit:KRW)
