Reported Six People to the Prosecutor for Violating the Political Fund Act

Date :06/24/2011Read : 365

The National Election Commission reviewed the financial report of political parties and political fundraising associations (PFA) for the year 2010. It reported 6 people to the prosecutor for using the resources of corporate or organisation to make contributions, and for contributing more than the annual ceiling amount.

The NEC closely checked and looked into the accounting report submitted by political parties and PFAs, in accordance with Article 40 of the Political Fund Act. It conducted paper examination and on-site investigation to find out whether there has been the violation of the Political Fund Act.

After checking the income and expenditure of political funds, the NEC found that contributions had been made with the intention to circumvent the contribution limit or prohibition provisions of the Political Find Act. In addition, some violations were committed repeatedly, despite several warnings and notification of violation. The NEC took a strong measure against such incidents.

The NEC expressed a concern over the practice of making contributions to PFAs and politicians using the financial resources of corporate or organisations, and contributing more than the annual ceiling amount set for political funds. It reconfirmed that it would reinforce preventive measures along with thorough investigation and law-enforcing activities on the violation of the Political Fund Act. The NEC will continue to encourage more people to make small amount of contribution and endeavour to devise various ways of making contribution.
