222,389 Overseas Voters Confirmed for the 18th Presidential Election

: 10% of the estimated number of 2,200,000 overseas voters

The National Election Commission announced that 222,389 voters, 10% of the estimated number of overseas voters, are registered on the confirmed electoral register for the 18th Presidential election to be held on December 19th.

The overseas voters list and the overseas absentees list have been prepared by applications of overseas voters. These lists have been gone through the review process to confirm whether or not the persons on the lists have rights to vote considering nationality, age and any conviction with an imprisonment sentence. The review process also includes public reading of the electoral register and cases of objections raised and appeals lodged. The number of voters for the Presidential election has increased by 80 % compared to that of the 18th National Assembly elections.

The total number of persons registered on the list consists of 179,188 overseas absentees and 43,201 overseas voters, out of which 114,472 are male and 107,917 are female. Among regions of Si/Do, Seoul-si comes first with the most number of registrants, 78,247 followed by Gyeonggi-do with 52,286 and Busan-si with 14,412. On the other hand, Sejong-si shows the least number of registrants, 356 in the country. Among regions of Gu/Si/Gun, Gangnam-gu tops the list with 7,254 registrants, while Ulleung-gun recorded the lowest number with 17.

The overseas voters on the confirmed electoral register will be able to vote for a period that each overseas voting committee designates (4 days or more, within 6 days) between December 5th and December 10th from 8 AM to 5 PM at 164 overseas polling places around the world. The NEC encourages these voters to cast their ballots for an overseas voting for the 18th Presidential election as a citizen of the Republic of Korea.
