According to the National Election Commission (Chairperson Nung-Hwan Kim), the NEC will provide a complimentary security service for websites run by candidates in conjunction with Korea Internet Security Agency (KISA, President Jong-Ryeol Seo). The decision has been made by the NEC to protect websites run by candidates for the 19th National Assembly elections from cyber attacks. This has been decided after DDos attack on October 26 last year against the NEC’s website and candidates’ homepages and recent damage cases caused by the hacking. This complementary security service is a limited offer for candidates’ official homepages and internet blogs/cafes set up or run by these candidates will be excluded from enjoying this benefit. Those who are registered as a candidate with the election commission in the concerned district may have access to this service after consulting with KISA over the phone and emailing an application form to sign up for the service. Once candidates have signed up for the service, the KISA will remotely examine vulnerable points of their websites and recommend appropriate security measures. The KISA will also provide web security tools as well as tools for preventing spam from being automatically posted. When there is a report of any DDos or hacking attack received to 188 Call, the KISA will provide support necessary to restore websites to normal operations and to recover damage. |
