Taking Measures on Misguided Reporting of Internet Media

Date :11/10/2011Read : 327

The Internet Election News Deliberation Commission of the NEC announced that it held the first deliberation meeting on 12th October regarding upcoming by-elections and took measures against 4 Internet Media which posted misguided reports by ordering them to post a warning on their sites.

The Internet Election News Deliberation Commission ordered IPF (wbctimes.com), All In Korea (allinkorea.net) and NEWS TOWN(newstown.co.kr) to post a warning on their sites with violations of the Public Official Election Act  (Article 8: Responsibilities of Press for Fair Reports), as they posted misguided information on certain candidates in a constant and malicious manner such as “a communist following North Korea”, “an expert on extorting chaebeols(business conglomerates)” and “a zombie”

In addition, the Internet Election News Deliberation Commission also issued a caution to University News Network (news.unn.net) because of its violation of the Article 8, as it conducted an insufficient survey and reported it.

The Internet Election News Deliberation Commission said official campaigns for the by-elections start on 13th October and also urged Internet media to help voters make a right decision by playing their proper roles: eschewing posting false and defamatory information on certain candidates online; reporting informative information that can help voters see whether candidates have enough ability to serve the nation or not; and putting candidates to the test to see whether they are qualified or not.
