| 42 Confirmed Districts of By-elections on 26th October |

The NEC announced that a total of 42 districts are confirmed to hold by-elections on 26th October: the Seoul mayoral by-election; 11 heads of Gu/Si/Gun; 11 members of province/metropolitan city councils; 19 members of Gu/Si/Gun councils. Districts where the grounds for holding by-elections were confirmed between 1st April and 30th September 2011 will hold by-elections on 26th October; and districts where the grounds for holding by-elections will be confirmed between 1st October 2011 and 12th March 2012 will hold on 11th April 2012, the day of the National Assembly election. The process of application for candidate registration will take place at the confirmed districts of by-elections from 6th to 7th October and election campaigns will officially start from 13th October. Voters who are not able to visit polling stations on the election day can apply for absentee voting from 7th to 11th to heads of Gu/Si/Gun and after voting at their whereabouts such as offices or local offices, they need to send ballot papers to their competent election commission.
